Rev. Gerald A. Lytle, 77, of Lancaster, died Thursday, April 5, 2012 at Lancaster Regional Medical Center. Born in York, he was the son of the late John T. and Florence E. (Hagarman) Lytle.
He was a 1954 graduate of St. Charles College, Catonsville, MD, and a 1960 graduate of St. Charles Borromeo Seminary, Philadelphia.
Father Lytle was ordained May 14, 1960 in Harrisburg and was a Catholic Priest in the Diocese of Harrisburg for 52 years. He served from 1960-63 at St. Joseph, Shamokin, 1963-64 at St. Joseph, Mechanicsburg, 1964-69 at St. Margaret Mary, Harrisburg, 1969-70 Sacred Heart Church, Lewistown, 1970-71 Diocesan Director of Human Life Program, Mt. Carmel, York, Harrisburg, & New Cumberland, 1972-74 St. Francis Xavier, Gettysburg, 1974-80 St. Pius X, Selinsgrove, 1980-84 St. Gregory the Great, Lebanon, 1984-86 Holy Trinity, Columbia, 1986-95 Our Lady of the Visitation, Shippensburg, and 1995-2003 St. Anne, Lancaster.
Father Jerry, besides being a Catholic Priest, had an additional ministry with educating people about addiction awareness and helping people overcome addictions.
Father Jerry enjoyed playing Scrabble, reading, watching movies, photography, traveling, especially visiting Jamaica. He also was very proud of his audience with Pope John Paul II in June of 2000.
Surviving are 3 brothers, John T. Lytle, husband of Anne, of Butler, PA, William J. Lytle, of York, and James E. Lytle, husband of Judy, of Reynoldsburg, OH, nieces and nephews.
Mass of Remembrance will be held on Monday evening, April 9, 2012 at 7 PM at St. Anne Catholic Church, 929 N. Duke St., Lancaster, PA 17602. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday morning at 11 AM at St. Anne Catholic Church. Viewing times at St. Anne's will be Monday from 5 until 7 PM and 8 until 9 PM, and Tuesday morning from 9 until 10:45 AM. Interment will be at St. Joseph New Catholic Cemetery.
