Obituary

George W. Strubel, 89, lifelong resident of Strasburg, PA, passed away Thursday, January 15, 2026, at VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System Hospital.

Following their first date roller skating at Rock Springs, George shared 62 years of marriage with his wife Joyce P. (Strickler) Strubel before her passing in 2020.

He was born and raised in the Strasburg house he lived in, the son of the late Charles Irvin and Mary Jane (Mowery) Strubel. He graduated from J. P. McCaskey High School.

George served in the US Army from 1959 to 1961 with the Military Police Detachment at Fort Tilden, NY, obtaining the rank of Specialist Technician 4th Grade. After the military, he worked 42 years at RCA, which became Thompson, as an experimental TV builder, retiring in March of 1998.

A man of deep faith, George was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Strasburg. He will be remembered for his faith phone calls to church members to wish them a happy birthday.

George loved sports, particularly baseball and football. He enjoyed visiting people, and he never met a stranger who wouldn't become his friend. George loved tending to his garden and growing his flowers.

Surviving family includes his daughter Teri A., wife of Tony Hoffman of Peru, IN, his sons, Theodore W. Strubel, husband of Ann Marie (Steele) of Lancaster, and Anthony W. "Tony" Strubel, fiancé of Mallory Credito of Pittsburgh, as well as six grandchildren, Ashley, Jessie, Corrine, Huntyr, Tyler, and Brooke, his great-grandson Indy, his brother Harry Strubel of Paradise, PA, and his sisters Margaret Hackett of Florida and Dorothy Book of Lititz, PA. In addition to his parents and wife, George was preceded in death by his sisters Mary Jane Althouse and Nancy Gross.
