Obituary

George D. McKinsey, 86, of Lancaster, passed away on February 26, 2011 at Hospice of Lancaster Essa Flory Center. He was born in Lancaster and was the son of the late Joseph Lincoln and Louise Agnes (Gilner) McKinsey.

George was preceded in death by his wife, Betty J. (Fitzgerald) in 1998.

George was the co-owner and vice-president of Washaw Design Inc. in Lancaster from 1951-1989.

George served his country with the US Army Air Corps. He was stationed in the Pacific Islands and was part of the Invasion Force at Okinawa in 1945.

He was a member of St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church and was a 1942 Lancaster Catholic graduate.  He was a 3 rd Degree with the Knights of Columbus Council #867.

George was a life member of Lancaster Sertoma Club, a 40 year member of the Lancaster Elks Club B.P.O.E. #134, VFW Millersville Post #7294, and was a 57 year member of the Conestoga Country Club. George was also in the ROMEO Club (Retired Old Men Eating Out) a group of men who would eat out every Tuesday.

He was an avid golfer, hunter, bridge player, and sports enthusiast.

The family would like to extend a very special thank you to all of the doctors, nurses, aids, and staff that assisted George throughout his last days at Hospice of Lancaster County.

George was greatly loved by all of his nieces and nephews and treated them all like his own. He will be missed by all. Surviving by, 9 nieces and nephews, Janice Hollinger, Joyce Irvin, Robert Wolf, Bruce Wolf, Donna Gray, Karen Rineer, Bernie Ziegler, Rosemary Greiner, and James Ziegler and many great nieces and nephews, and great great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Paul and Joseph McKinsey, and two sisters, Mary E. Allen and Gladys McKinsey.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday, March 3, 2011 from St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church 2111 Millersville Pk. Lancaster, PA 17603 at 11:30am with The Rev. Mark E. Weiss as Celebrant. A visitation will take place at the church on Thursday from 10-11:30am. Final farewell and commendation will be in St. Joseph New Catholic Cemetery with Military Honors.
