Obituary

George W. Jeffrey III, 93, was reunited with his Lord and beloved wife, Janet, on April 12, 2022. George was married to Janet for 67 wonderful years; she always said he was the wind beneath her wings. He is survived by two daughters, Dawn Kvasny of Chambersburg, PA, and Kathie Torrance of Lititz, PA; three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; his sister and brother-in-law, Joyce and Richard Hyatt, of Hummelstown, PA; and his brother and sister-in-law, Dick and Peggy Jeffrey, of Shreveport, LA.

As a teenager during WWII, George was a member of the Civil Air Patrol. He would ride his bike to the top of Beldon Hill to work his shift, spotting and reporting any visible aircraft overhead. He and Janet were registered Girl Scout leaders for their daughters' troops, then after the girls were grown he worked with the Boy Scouts. At the cottage he built on Cayuga Lake, he could always be seen at the barbecue grill or pulling water skiers behind Skimpy III, his 23' Chris Craft. In his senior years he refused to barbecue any more – we don't know why! Some of our favorite memories at the lake are of him holding the swing set slide on the dock so we could slide into the lake, learning to water ski, and eating the barbecued chicken and spiedies he cooked between dips in the lake to cool off.

George worked at IBM for 34 years, where he was a tool maker and manager in the wood and model shops. He was responsible for setting up the model shops when the Federal Systems Division was started up in Owego, NY. George was very proud of the small part his shops played in the early years of the space program. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and boating; but his real passion was woodworking – building, or remodeling, houses, furniture and toys. He was always thinking and enjoyed finding ways to fix things or improve/simplify processes. Even in his 90's neighbors would come to him for help fixing things, knowing "George will have just the right tool!" He is going to be greatly missed!

During the 30 years that they were Florida residents, George and Janet often acted as travel coordinators and guides for their gated community. They traveled extensively world-wide, but George's favorites were Alaska, Egypt, New Zealand and Africa.

Residing at Warwick Woodlands at Moravian Manor for the past six years, George enjoyed watching the construction of the Residential Living project. Dubbed by some neighbors and friends as the 'Sidewalk Superintendent', he could often be seen sitting on his walker watching the construction. He truly enjoyed the many friendships he made here and the many kindnesses extended to him.

George had a strong faith and a servant nature and was the first to offer help in any crisis. He was his wife's full-time caregiver for over ten years.
