IN LOVING MEMORY OF
George Thomas
Castanzo
April 7, 1964 – January 18, 2025
George Thomas Castanzo, 60, passed away peacefully at Lancaster General Hospital on January 18, 2025.
Born on April 7, 1964, in Scranton, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late George J. Castanzo, DDS, and Marjorie (Brock) Castanzo.
George graduated from South Catholic High School and the University of Scranton where he earned his MBA in business and marketing. George began his career in banking and insurance, then moved to inside sales positions at companies throughout Pennsylvania. Later in his career, he held positions at drug and alcohol treatment facilities in York and Lancaster Counties. Throughout his career, he was known for his hard work, dedication, and passion for helping others. He was especially proud of his nine years of sobriety.
George was a lifelong Pittsburg Steelers and Notre Dame football fan. He was an active member of his community, volunteering for various causes and organizations, especially those related to drug and alcohol treatment. George made friends wherever he went with his easy going, approachable personality and big smile. From childhood through his adult years, he loved spending time at the Delaware and Maryland beaches.
He is survived by his sons, George and Robert, both residing in Scranton; sister Kathlene Anacarto, Bear Creek, PA; brother James, Lancaster; sister Christine, Scranton; sister Marie Taylor, Taylor, PA; brother Paul, Malvern, PA; and brother Michael, Scranton; and his dearest friend and companion Julie Cole, East Petersburg. He was preceded in death by his sister Marjorie (Waibel).
George's family would like to thank the Lancaster General Hospital's ICU staff for the incredible care George received during his 18-day stay. Their care, compassion, and professionalism was so greatly appreciated.
A private celebration of George's life will be held in Scranton at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in George's memory to White Deer Run of Lancaster, 53 N. West End Ave., Lancaster, PA 17603, or the American Diabetes Association.
