George J. Bailey, age 93, of Willow Street, PA, passed away on February 26, 2018 at Lakeside at Willow Valley. Born and raised in Scranton, PA, he was the son of the late George E. and Mary Bailey. He graduated from University of PA with a degree in accounting. During WWII, George served in the Army as a 1st Lieutenant and pilot of a B-17 bomber. George is survived by his beloved wife, Anne, whom he married 67 years ago. After moving to New Rochelle, a suburb, of Manhattan, New York George worked for the firm Ernst & Ernst and New York Bell Telephone. He retired from Verizon as a Manager of Corporate Accounting in their Manhattan Headquarters. George was a trustee of St. John and Paul Catholic Church in the Larchmont Woods section of New Rochelle. He was a treasurer of the University Club of Larchmont and served on the board of the New Rochelle Humane Society. One of his favorite sports was sailing, which he did from Maine to Florida out of the Larchmont Yacht Club where he was a member. George and Anne lived their entire married life in New York until nine years ago when they moved to the Willow Valley Community in Willow Street, PA. George was a member of St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church. Memorial Service will be private and held at the convenience of the family. Interment will be at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne, New York.
