IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Gary L.
Paporello
April 24, 2024
Gary L. Paporello (69) passed away on Wednesday, April 24, 2024 at home in Manheim after a brief illness. He was born in Jersey City, NJ and was the son of the late Louis Paporello and Doris (Pfeifle) Paporello. He spent many years living lakeside in beautiful Sussex County, NJ before retiring to Manheim, PA for the last decade.
Gary was an avid outdoorsman his whole life, growing up camping, canoeing, and doing other outdoor activities that eventually earned him the highest honors of his Eagle Scout award as a teenager. His years raising his family on Lake Lenape and teaching them to canoe, kayak, and play "King of the Dock" are some of his children's favorite memories of Dad. In addition to keeping up with Teresa and the kids, Gary stayed active through swimming, running, biking, and participating in triathlons. Later in life as semi-retired snowbirds, Gary and Teresa had a second home in Wilmington, NC where they loved to take walks together on Wrightsville Beach. Just this last year, they traveled the country for several months in their RV together seeing many sights that had been on both of their bucket lists.
In his long career in the television and film industry, Gary initially worked as a field engineer for ABC Sports for 25 years, covering notable events such as Super Bowls, World Series games, the Indianapolis 500, and the Olympics. This transitioned to nearly 20 more years as an audio engineer for Good Morning America, in which he earned multiple Emmy Awards and a Peabody Award for his contributions to world news coverage. Gary always preferred being behind the scenes, but could also be found conversing and proudly showing off pictures of his family to everyone he met. In his retirement, he still enjoyed doing audio work for local churches and his retirement community.
Gary will be deeply missed by his wife Teresa of 38 years, daughter Kristen Rogers (married to Matt), son Kyle Paporello (married to Annette), beautiful new granddaughter Paige, and multiple "grandpups." He is also survived by his two younger brothers, Glen and Keith. He was a wonderful husband, father, brother, friend, and "Grumpa" who will be fondly remembered by all.
Family will receive visitors on Monday, April 29, 2024 from 10:00 to 11:00AM at St. Richard Catholic Church, 110 N Oak St., Manheim, PA 17545. There will be an 11:00AM Mass at the church and a luncheon to follow.
In lieu of cards or flowers, please consider donations in Gary's name made to either St. Richard Catholic Church of Manheim or The Seeing Eye Inc. in support of the family's beloved seeing eye dogs.
