IN LOVING MEMORY OF
G. Jean
(Erisman) Petters
November 11, 2023
G. Jean (Erisman) Petters, 95 of Lancaster, passed away November 11, 2023. She spent her childhood in Lancaster City and Lampeter. Her life was full of family and outdoor activities from gardening and picnics to fishing with her Dad. Music was a given in her family and she was sent for piano lessons in her teens at Petters' music shop. Her instructor, Opal Petters, connived to have her walked to the bus by Opal's brother, Oscar, setting off a lifetime of love.
Jean and Oscar married in June of 1949 and moved to Ironville. Jean worked a variety of secretarial positions, putting in time at Red Rose Transit, Hamilton Watch, a dentist in Strasburg, and at Willow Street Vo Tech.
They purchased a property outside Strasburg where they had their dream home built as their family grew to a total of four with their two daughters. When Oscar's engineering position was in question, they searched for a way to support themselves independently of his career. Jean came up with the idea of building a miniature golf course which was accomplished on their property in 1972. Jean took over daily running of the Village Greens Miniature Golf Course. They expanded it to a second course in 1984 on Jean's favorite hillside on their property that she wanted to share with their customers.
Jean continued helping at the course as long as she was able, still helping with flower planting into her 90's. She and Oscar got to enjoy exploring the US in their RV for several years. She loved her grandkids and great grandkids, and her pet dogs and cats.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar Petters and her sisters Ann Marie and Laberta. She is survived by a sister, Katherine Steinmetz, and daughters, Deb Anspach (Kean) and Cindy Fairchild (James) as well as grandchildren; Julie Anspach, Melissa Seltzer, Shelly King, Samantha Fairchild, and Shannon Fairchild and six great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held November 20, 2023, at Lampeter Church of the Brethren, 1900 Lampeter Rd, Lancaster, PA at 11am. Family guests to a visitation one hour prior beginning at 10am. Memorial donations can be made in Jean's honor to the Schreiberer Center for Pediatric Development. schreiberpediatric.org/
