Obituary

Friedrich "Fritz" Georg Bossert, 67, of Lancaster, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Sunday May 12, 2024. Born in Mannheim, Germany, he was the son of Marianne (Hartman) Bossert, of Germany, and the late Heinrich Bossert. He was married over 36 years to his beloved wife Claudia (Lorenzen) Bossert.

Fritz grew up a farmer's son, instilling in him a strong work ethic which carried him through his whole life, although working in tobacco never felt like work to him. Fritz was the Chief Executive Officer at Lancaster Leaf Tobacco Co, LLC, part of the Universal Corporation. He was well-respected in the cigar industry, committing over 45 years of experience to his beloved trade. He started his career at a small German Tobacco Company, and eventually in 1996 moved his family to the US to continue his career as the Vice President of Tobacco Purchasing at General Cigar. Fritz spent the last 20 years of his career at Lancaster Leaf, where he oversaw global operations in Brazil, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Indonesia, Nicaragua, Paraguay, Philippines and the US.

Tobacco and cigars were more than his career, they were his lifetime passion. Tobacco took Fritz all over the world and he met so many people, many of whom became his friends. There was no greater joy than smoking a cigar with his friends and talking about that simple pleasure. Fritz was also a member of the Hamilton Club and The Churchill Society and always enjoyed the planning and organization efforts for the annual Churchill Dinner which was attended by many from all around the world.

In true German fashion, food remained a reason to gather the family. He loved spending time with his family, cooking and exploring new recipes to share with them. He was famously known for his homemade juice, enjoyed by friends and family on Sunday mornings. Fritz was an incredibly sweet, caring and playful Opa. He showered his new grandchildren with love and was always willing to drop what he was doing to come help with his grandbabies. They were his pride and joy, and his love for them will be dearly missed. Outside of work and family, Fritz enjoyed riding his motorcycles. Nothing compared to the freedom he experienced from riding with a warm breeze on a sunny day.

In addition to his wife Claudia, and mother Marianne, Friedrich is survived by his four children: Tina Burke, Ph.D. (Shawn Burke), of MN, Anna Bossert, D.O. (Zachary Bushmire), Lisa Bossert, M.P.H. (Stephen Neagle), and Julia Bossert, D.V.M. (Christopher Chubb), all of Lancaster; five grandchildren: Julian, Elliott, Nolan, Eleanor, and Charlotte; and his siblings: Heinrich Bossert (Martina Schwarz), Ilse Wiester (Roland Wiester), Thomas Bossert (Petra), Nicole Bossert, as well as his many nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Fritz's Life will be held at 11 AM on Thursday, May 23, 2024, at Charles F. Snyder, Jr., Funeral Home & Crematory, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA 17543. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Fritz's memory may be made to Central American Relief Efforts, C/O Mr. Steve Mentzer, 1680 New Holland Pike, Lancaster, PA 17601. Additionally, his family asks that when you're enjoying a great cigar, enjoy it with a smile like Fritz always had, in his memory.
