Fred M. Burgess, age 57, of Lancaster, PA, passed away on December 12, 2014. Fred was married to Gail (Thomas) Burgess for 34 magical years. He was the loving son of Fred and Isabelle Burgess of Bonita Springs, FL. Fred grew up in Allenwood, NJ. After graduating from Virginia Tech, he took a job with Armstrong World Industries, which eventually moved him and his family to Lancaster. Most recently, Fred was General Manager with Amorim Cork Composites of Portugal. Fred was a true Renaissance man who loved a good challenge. He was an avid runner who completed 13 marathons and one 50-miler. He climbed Mount Rainier on a whim. He covered over 100,000 miles on his coast-to-coast motorcycle rides. He traveled to countless cities and countries across six continents, making fast friends with everyone he met. He was always working on a project, and he could rebuild a car with his eyes closed. Fred was hilarious. He could make a room explode with laughter. The stories he told about adventures large and small captivated everyone in his audience. Above all, he was the best husband, father, son, brother, and friend. He was so loved. In addition to his Gailbird and his parents, Fred is survived by his son, Michael Burgess; his daughter, Katelyn Burgess; two sisters, Kathy Gumph, wife of Jack, and Janet Crosson, wife of Scott; two sisters-in-law, Susan Chesley, wife of Steve, and Patty Szurek, wife of Dave; two nieces and two nephews; and many, many friends.
