Obituary

Francis P. Miller, 92, of Lancaster, PA, passed away on September 20, 2014 at Brethren Village Retirement Community. Born in Lancaster, the son of the late Peter and Josephine (Gaupmann) Miller. He was married for 54 years to Bertie E. Miller, whom he wed on April 9, 1960.

Frank graduated from Manheim Township High School in 1939 as a member of the National Honor Society. He attended Franklin & Marshall College for two years. Frank retired in 1981 from RCA after 33 years of service.

A veteran of WWII, he served in the United States Air Force as a Radio Operator/Gunner on a B17, stationed in England. On his 10th mission over Germany, he and his crew of 10 were shot down on January 30, 1944, and spent the next 15 months as Prisoners of War. Among medals he received were the Air Medal and the Purple Heart.

Organizations that Frank belonged to include: Lodge #43, F & A.M. of Lancaster, PA, Tall Cedars of Lebanon #27, Disabled American Veterans, American Legion Post #34, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Ex-Prisoner of War – Conestoga Chapter, 379th Bomb Group WWII Assoc., Inc. and Silver Threads. He was a member of St. Peters Lutheran Church. Frank was an avid golfer and Bridge player.

In addition to his wife, Frank is survived by his daughter, Deborah, wife of James Myers, of Mooresville, NC, and their sons, Justin and Nathan, husband of Theresa, of Raleigh, NC; his son, David, husband of Cynthia and Daughter, Chelsea of Wilmington, DE; his step-son, Dennis Rutherford, of Lancaster, PA, and his daughters, Stephanie and Stacy and son, Eric, husband of Anna; four great grandchildren; Nieces and Nephews.

He was preceded in death by a brother and two sisters. Frank was the last of his immediate family.

A viewing will take place from 6-7 PM on Monday, September 22, 2014 at the Charles F. Snyder, Jr. Funeral Home & Crematory, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA 17543 with a Funeral Service to follow at 7 PM. On Tuesday, September 23, 2014, we will be departing the funeral home at 9:15 AM for a 10 AM Burial at Conestoga Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Franks' memory to St. Peters Lutheran Church, 10 Delp Road, Lancaster, PA 17601.
