Obituary

Floyd Mason Carlton, Jr., died at Willow Valley on November 27th, 2016. He was born in Philadelphia to the late Floyd Mason Carlton and Catherine (Davish) Carlton. He was married for 74 years to Florence (Murphy) Carlton. Floyd was a graduate of LaSalle University. He was a Veteran of WWII serving in the US Coast Guard from 1942 to 1945. Floyd was employed by Leeds and Northrup Co. & SKF Industries and was Chief Industrial Engineer for Food Fair Stores. While living in Hartsville, Bucks County, he served as Cub Scout Committee Chairman and was a Deacon at Neshaminy Warwick Presbyterian Church. Following a family move to New England in 1963, he joined his step-Father Fred J. Vorlander in the firm of Tec Systems as President of the firm. He represented several electronic forms including Temptronic Corporation of Newton, Massachusetts. He and his wife moved to Willow Valley in 2000. He continued his lifelong interest in fishing and hunting and was a member of Mill Creek Sportsmen's Club. He was a volunteer at the Pennsylvania Railroad Museum in Strasburg, painting murals on walls of model railroad exhibits. He was instrumental in forming (together with Robert Lebo) the Willow Valley Model Railroad room at the Lakes Cultural Center. He did chair seat caning for many Willow Valley residents and others in Lancaster County. He enjoyed oil painting, antique furniture and glassware; the fishing club and helped tend a vegetable garden plot. He was a member of Ascension Lutheran Church. He is survived by his son, Thomas M. Carlton of Maine. Another son John R. Carlton pre-deceased him. He is also survived by a half-brother Ky Carlton and a half nephew Edward Carlton, both of Washington State. A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, December 6th at 11:00am at Ascension Lutheran Church, 600 E. Penn Grant Road, Willow Street, PA. A visitation with the family will be from 10-11AM at the church. Family and Friends are invited to attend. If desired, memorial contributions may be sent to the Friends of the Railroad Museum, P. O. Box 125, Strasburg, PA or Ascension Lutheran Church at the above address.
