Evelyn H. (Gray) Duncan, 82, of Lancaster, died Saturday, August 16, 2014, surrounded by love at Lancaster General Hospital.

Born in Lancaster, she was the wife of the late Robert E. Duncan, who died September 18, 2007. She was the daughter of the late Wilbur and Stella (Book) Gray.

Evelyn had been employed for 35 years as an office clerk for Armstrong World Industries, retiring in 1985.

She was a member of Bethel AME Church, and the Bethel Women's Auxiliary.

A community activist, Evelyn enjoyed working with young people. She was active with Mothers Against Drugs and volunteered at the food bank and at Carter and Macrae Elementary school.

Evelyn is survived by a son, Dennis R. Duncan of Philadelphia; and a sister, Dorothy Ringgold of Lancaster. Evelyn was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara Hart, and three brothers: Wilbur T. Gray Jr., Charles Leroy Gray, and Russell Johnson, Chester Johnson, and sisters, Ruth Gray and Irma Johnson.

Funeral services will be held at 10 AM on Thursday, August 21, 2014 at Bethel AME Church, 450 E. Strawberry St., Lancaster, PA 17602-4449 with Rev. Edward Bailey officiating. Friends will be received at the church one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Mellinger Mennonite Cemetery.
