Eugene Campbell Viera III of Lancaster PA, known to his family and friends as Campy and Gene, passed away January 15, 2024 at the age of 66, with loved ones by his side. Born in Illinois, to the late Eugene C. Viera Jr. and Patricia L. Viera, Gene's journey was marked by creativity, enthusiasm, diligence, and a profound love for his family.

His birth family relocated to Florida, finally settling in Winter Haven. Gene often described growing up there as magical. He graduated from high school in Florence, SC, and went on to become a skilled journeyman tool and die maker, high speed precision die designer, and manufacturing engineer. He spent most of his career working for New Standard Corp. and T.E.Connectivity. Gene was exceptionally talented, capable of completing builds from his own concept, through draft design, to fabrication. He admired the talents of others and enjoyed collaboration.

Beyond his professional pursuits, Gene embraced a multitude of hobbies that enriched his life, truly too many to list. An activity or area of interest became a passion, with knowledge and skills that needed mastering. With intelligence, humility, and humor, he connected with people and made friends each time.

His musical talents were impressive; he played harmonica, 6 and 12 string guitar, and sang, working on harmonies until they were just right. Playing in several bands, including a trio started with friends called Good Question, and the group White Ridge, amongst others. A highlight was playing with Cristy Lane and opening for Conway Twitty at the Pequea Silver Mines. A second phase of artistic pursuit was in digital photography and editing. His range of subjects grew with experience, from sports to organized shoots in his studio.

Gene had a lifelong love for outdoor activities, that included water skiing, hiking, bicycling, hunting, fishing, boating, and dirt bike riding (winning Motorama for Trials riding twice). This reflected his deep appreciation for nature and adventure, and a dedication to health and fitness. He enjoyed cooking with a big focus on nutritional science. Additionally, he was interested in current affairs and informed discussion.

Gene took great pride in his patriotic family heritage. Descended from a maternal ancestor on the Lewis and Clark expedition and having ties to the Sons of the American Revolution. His namesake grandfather who fought in WW1 and WW2 is buried in Arlington National Cemetery along with his grandmother.

Gene's family was the center of his world. He is survived by his wife and partner of 27 years Emily Garvin, and his sons Brad Viera husband to Lyndsey, and Brian Viera partner to Kelly, from his previous marriage to Donna Viera . His grandchildren, Ariana, Cameron, and Connor were a source of immense joy. Gene is also survived by his siblings, Mike Viera and Ann Viera. He leaves behind a legacy of love.

A celebration of Gene's life will be held on February 3, 2024, at Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA, at 2:30 pm, with visitation starting at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you honor Gene's life by creating a fun time with your family or friends in his name, or taking a hike.

Gene will be remembered for his courage, convictions, and the energy he carried with him. Always planning ahead, no matter what he did, he used his time on Earth well. Gene's self-will, commitment to hard work, and constant pursuit of self-improvement have left an indelible mark on all who knew him. His broad sense of humor, whether silly or dry, added a special warmth to the lives of those around him. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by family and friends alike. May he rest in eternal peace.
