Esther H. Francos, of Lancaster passed away peacefully on June 23, 2019 at The Mennonite Home, where she had resided for the past few years. She was the wife of the late Charles G. Francos, with whom she shared 72 years of marriage.
Born in Lancaster on June 18, 1926, Esther was the daughter of the late Vasilios and Alexandra Gannes.
Esther graduated from J.P. McCaskey High School in 1943. She matriculated at Millersville Teacher's College and graduated in 1946. She taught elementary school at the Ross Street School and Stevens Elementary School until the birth of her first child in 1949.
Esther was a lifetime member of the Annunciation Orthodox Church in Lancaster. She was an active member of the choir for many years, and participated in the annual bazaar and the Daughters of Penelope.
Esther is survived by her sons, George C. Francos, M.D., and his wife, Barbara, Haddonfield, N.J.; Charles G. Francos, Lancaster; and William S. Francos, Esq., and his wife, Andrea, Sinking Spring, PA. Esther is also remembered as a kind and loving Yiayia to her grandchildren: Julia (Charles) Montgomery; Gregory Francos; Lauren (Jarad) Kohr; Emily Francos; Andrew Francos; and Mary Francos. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren Cora Montgomery, John Kohr, and Eleni Kohr. She was preceded in death by her daughter Alexis, and her sister Isabel Chaknos.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday June 26, 2019 at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 64 Hershey Ave., Lancaster, at 10:30 am with Rev. Hector Firoglanis and Rev Alexander Veronis Officiating. The family will receive visitors at the church at 9:30 to 10:30am at church.
