IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Ernest L.
“Ernie” Scribner Ii
December 14, 2021
Ernest L. "Ernie" Scribner II, 58, of York, and of Watertown, NY passed away Tuesday, December 14, 2021, at Hospice & Community Care in Mount Joy after a short battle with cancer. Born in West Covina, CA he was the son of James L. Scribner and the late Carol (Sinnard) Scribner. He was the loving husband of Lynn Sprott with whom he shared over 30 years of marriage.
Ernie entered the Marine Corps after high school and served for seven years. During his time in the Marines, he served in many places around the world including two tours in Japan, and Quantico, Virginia, where he met Lynn. He entered George Mason University after separating from the Marines as a Sergeant, serving in the Virginia National Guard while earning his bachelor's degree in history. He then went active duty in the Army, where he and Lynn enjoyed exploring the world while stationed in Germany, Texas, Georgia, Virginia, and New York. In the army, he served in conflict zones in Bosnia and Iraq, earning a Bronze Star in Iraq. After retiring as a Major from the Army, his focus was all on his family. He was an extremely involved Dad to Zack. He spent the year after retiring being Zack's primary caretaker, then working in real estate to keep a flexible schedule in order to always be there when he was needed. He was an active part of Zack's scout troop throughout Zack's scouting days, and made many, many early morning weekend drives to Lake Placid and Whiteface Mountain for Zack's snowboarding. He always did whatever his family needed, whether that meant driving overnight to Illinois to see his father after he had a stroke, or working as a cashier at Stewart's Shops to add a bit of extra money to fund a great family vacation. For the last 4 years of his life, he moved to Pennsylvania to work at the Starbucks roasting and distribution plant in York. Despite being radically overqualified he started as a forklift driver, because he wanted to begin working right away and make sure that Zack never had to worry about student loans and could do any activities he wanted while he was in college. But it turned out that he loved working at Starbucks. He was quickly promoted to a shift leader position and enjoyed that roll more than any job since he was in company command as a Captain.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Zack Sprott-Scribner of Watertown & Paul Smiths NY; sister, Connie Krall, wife of Jeff of Decatur, IL and Connie's children Laura and Brandon; two brothers, Paul Scribner of Lafayette, NC and Jay Scribner of Los Angeles, CA; his father, James Scribner, of Westminster, CA; and his many exchange children, Patricia Villinger of Germany, Emin Baghirov of Azerbaijan and Dover, DE, Denys Kryvopalyi of Ukraine, Patrick Larsen of Denmark, Maxim Gamzayev of Russia, Leo Koch of Germany, Abdul Kamara of Sierra Leone, and Alfredo Aguirre of Mexico. He also considered Lynn's family his family: his other father and mother, Dick and Margaret Sprott of Huntingdon, PA, his sister and brother-in-law, Debbie and Rich Brooks, of State College, PA and his niece and nephew, Sydney and Nick Brooks, also of State College. Lynn's cousins and aunts and uncles became his cousins and aunts and uncles. Everyone always knew Ernie would do anything he could to help them.
A Funeral Service will be held at 10AM on Sunday, December 19, 2021, at Charles F. Snyder Jr. Funeral Home & Crematory, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA. Interment will be private. Family and friends will be received from 9-10AM at the funeral home on Sunday. Since we have some vulnerable family members, we would like to ask everyone to please wear masks inside the building. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Ernie's memory may be made to Hospice & Community Care, PO Box 4125, Lancaster, PA 17604-4125.
