Obituary

Emmanuel "Manny" Karpathios, 87, of Lancaster, PA passed away Sunday, November 13, 2016 at Hospice & Community Care in Mount Joy. He was the husband of Anna (Karpouzis) Karpathios to whom he was happily married for 53 years.

Emmanuel was born on Kos Island, Dodecanese, Greece. He graduated from tailoring school, the academy of England, in Rome in 1959, and in 1969, came to the United States with $11 and his first month's rent paid for by his two brother in laws, Andrew Karpouzis and the late Paul Karpouzis with a vision and dream to become his own entrepreneur. Six months after he came to the States he bought his first house and then multiple properties after. He was the owner of Manny's Professional Tailoring on West Orange Street in Lancaster.

He was a member of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church. He spent endless hours gardening as he enjoyed watching new life. He enjoyed playing backgammon with his children and grandchildren. At night, he would continue studying the Greek American dictionary, always trying to educate himself. He enjoyed traveling back and forth from Kos, spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Emmanuel's life was selfless. He served in the Greek National Army for two years. He worked hard, not for himself, but for the prosperity of his family. He was a fighter who's been through countless battles but whose zest for life made him the victor. A humbled man with a strong sense of family.

In addition to his wife Anna, he is survived, admired and forever adored, by his two sons Dimitri Karpathios husband to Amber, Paul Karpathios, and his daughter Maria Karpathios. Five grandchildren, Taylor, Luke, Braedon, Macy and Michael. He was preceded in death by a brother Athanasios Karpathios and two sisters Sophia and Zoe Karpathios.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 17, 2016 at 11AM from Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 64 Hershey Ave. Lancaster, PA 17603 with Fr. Hector Firoglanis officiating. Interment will be held in Conestoga Memorial Park. A viewing will be held from 9AM until the time of his funeral service at the church.
