"Ted" Weems

Elvin M. (Ted) Weems, 83, of Manheim Township, Lancaster, PA. died at Hospice, Mt. Joy, PA. on April 23, 2009. He was preceded in death by two children, Daniel and Theresa. Born on June 12, 1925 in Point, Ouachita Parish, Louisiana, Ted was one of nine children of Daniel E. Weems and Francis Teal Weems. Raised in rural Louisiana, Ted knew the value of hard work. At 18 years old Ted joined the US Army and was assigned to the Pacific Theatre with Company B, 1 st Infantry. Ted received Bronze Stars for "Valor" and with oak leaf clusters. He was also awarded the Combat Infantry Badge, Asiatic Pacific Campaign medal with two Bronze Arrowheads and two Purple Hearts from WWII and Korea service. He was honorably discharged as Staff Sergeant. Ted was a life time member of Disabled American Veterans. Ted retired from Alcoa, Lancaster after 34 years of service and then worked at Weis markets for 15 years. The ballgame on the radio, Ted was always working on a project or doing extra work. He was surrounded by family at his death that will mourn eternally.
He leaves his wife of 63 years, Anna Marie Weiss Weems who he married September 1946, seven children: Gregory D. husband of Elaine Waltman, Barbara A. wife of Richard E. Herr, Anthony D. husband of Jennifer Perini, Steven M. husband of Karen Lawrence, Kathy A. Weems, Joseph M. Weems, Kevin M. husband of Lisa Gingrich. He is also survived by a younger sister, Delphi Fatheree (nee) Weems, seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Anne's Catholic Church, N. Duke and Liberty Streets on Monday, April 27, 2009 at 10:00AM with Rev Norman Hohenwarter as celebrant. Interment will be private at St. Peters Catholic Cemetery in Elizabethtown, PA. Contributions may be made in Ted's memory to Hospice of Lancaster County, P.O. Box 4125, Lancaster, Pa 17604-4125.
