Elke A. Smathers, 76, of Manheim passed away on March 9, 2022 at home surrounded by her loving family. Born in Germany to the late Paul and Anna Opitz, she was the wife of Robert Smathers of Manheim for 56 years. Elke had many hobbies during her time as a homemaker including gardening, hiking, swimming, her love of animals and spending time traveling to the beach. A dedicated wife and mother, Elke enjoyed spending time with her children: Yvonne Noonan of Lancaster, Dennis Smathers of New Mexico, Ryan Smathers of Maryland, Brian Smathers of Maryland, and Tiffany Ruzyllo and Jerry Lawlor of Manheim. She was also loved by 13 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her granddaughter Samantha Noonan. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Pet Pantry of Lancaster County.
