Elizabeth "Ybe" Baggerly McDowell, 93, died peacefully Tuesday morning in the Homestead Village infirmary.
She was born in Pittsburgh, PA on December 7, 1919 and was predeceased 19 years ago by her beloved husband of 51 years, Jack McDowell.
Ybe was a teacher who graduated from Indiana of Pa. Normal School in 1941. She taught home economics, history and much later, nursery school at First Presbyterian. She worked as a dietician at the Lancaster Osteopathic Hospital, and volunteered for many years at the Lancaster Public Library.. She loved bridge, gardening, reading, long walks, her cat Happy and many friends. As Grammy, she enjoyed her grandchildren and cherished her great grandchildren. She had been a faithful member of Bethany Presbyterian Church and Grace United Church of Christ.
Her survivors include a son, Doug McDowell and his wife Kelly of Lambertville , NJ and a daughter, Ginny McDowell Claffey and her husband Jack of Phoenixville. She had 8 loving grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren, with one more due in April.
She will be greatly missed by her family and those who knew her.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, January 20th, at Homestead Village, at 1 p.m. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Lancaster County Conservancy, P.O. Box 716,Lancaster, PA 17608. Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home & Crematory 717-393-9661
