Elizabeth M. King, 93, of Lititz, PA, passed away on Friday, May 30, 2014 at Luther Acres Retirement Home. Born in Moorestown, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Alpheus B. and Margaret L. (Schnetzler) MacCracken.
Elizabeth was a graduate of Sacramento State College where she earned a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education. After teaching for a short period, she worked in social work and was employed at Sacramento and San Mateo, CA county welfare depts, the Lancaster County Office of Public Assistance, and the former Elizabethtown Children's Hospital. Following her retirement, she worked at Watt & Shand Dept Store in Lancaster.
She received great solace from her membership in Highland Presbyterian Church.
Elizabeth enjoyed playing bridge, reading, art, knitting, music, golf, and gardening and shared these many interests with her friends and family.
She is survived by her daughters Carol married to Carl H. Thomas of Loudon, TN; Colleen Shaw of Lititz; and Cindy King married to David M. Callis of Lititz; 6 grandchildren Diana Illingworth, Corey Thomas, Lance Shaw, Kim Shaw, Gary Hopkins Jr., and Ann Hamilton; 7 great grandchildren; and by her sisters, Marian Steele of Berlin, NJ, and Kathleen married to Charley Livingston of Lancaster. She was preceded in death by her sister, Jean Creelman of Moorestown, NJ.
The family would like to express their appreciation to the nurses and staff of Luther Acres Manor for the care and compassion they gave Elizabeth.
Friends will be received on Saturday, June 7, 2014 at the Charles F. Snyder Jr. Funeral Home & Crematory, 3110 Lititz, Pike, Lititz, PA from 9:30-10AM, with the Memorial Service to follow at 10:00AM. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Elizabeth's memory to Highland Presbyterian Church, 500 E. Roseville, Rd., Lancaster, PA 17601 or to Hospice and Community Care, 685 Good Drive, Box 4125, Lancaster, PA 17604-4125.
