Elizabeth G. "Betty" (Urick) Gillespie, 92, of Lititz and formerly of Shamokin, died peacefully May 14, 2017, at Lancashire Hall, Lancaster. Born June 29, 1924 in Shamokin, she was predeceased in 1969 by her husband Robert F. Gillespie of Paxinos, PA. She was the daughter of the late John and Mary (Supsic) Urick. Betty was a homemaker living in Shamokin and later moved to Paxinos with her husband who was an owner-operator truck driver. She loved traveling, camping, and trips to the ocean with her family and later her grandchildren. She worked for Mr. Red Clark's Poultry, Brumbach Auction, Split Vein Coal Company and Mountain View Manor. Betty always had a passion to take care of people and worked as a private care giver for many people after her retirement. Her grandchildren were the light of her life and she reveled in every achievement they attained. Betty was a member of St. Edward's Catholic Church, Shamokin, St. Michael's Catholic Church, Sunbury, and after moving to Lancaster County to be near her son's family, St. John Neumann Catholic Church, Lancaster. Survivors include her two sons, Gregory R, married to the former Cynthia Clark; and Bert T., married to the former Kim Hopper; 8 grandchildren: Gregory Gillespie II (Jackie Fuentes), Nicole Oberrender (Emmett), Megan Gillespie (Grant Williams), Julia Kroesen (Justin), Michael Gillespie, Donielle Hopper, Kelly Gillespie and Katie Gillespie; 12 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. In her later years, Betty developed close friendships with her caregivers at Lancashire Hall and they will be fondly remembered by her family. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 AM Thursday, May 18, 2017 at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 601 E. Delp Rd., Lancaster, PA 17601 with the Rev. Dan Powell as Celebrant. Friends will be received one half hour prior to the mass at the church. Burial will be private. Kindly omit flowers.
