Eleanor Burns Davis, 93, formerly of Millersville, PA, died on April 21, 2014, at Moravian Manor where she was a resident. Born in Wilmerding, PA on May 3, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Charles Lee and Flora Spielman Burns.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Glenn H. Davis; two sisters, Edith Burns Dyal and Janet Burns Westman; and one brother, Charles L. Burns, Jr. She earned a BS in Elementary Education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 1942.
She taught early childhood education in Greensburg, PA, Westwood, NJ, and for many years was a first grade teacher in the Penn Manor School District in Millersville, PA.
She was a member of Highland Presbyterian Church, Lancaster, PA.
A devoted mother and grandmother, she is survived by a son, Glenn H. Davis, Jr., husband of Christine L. Davis, Birmingham, AL; two daughters, Nancy D. Smith, wife of Philip E. Smith, Lancaster, PA, and Carol D. Hodes, wife of Jeffrey A. Hodes, Herndon, VA; six grandchildren, Rebecca L. Davis, Glenn H. Davis III, husband of Abigail Orr Davis, Phillip A. Hodes, husband of Elizabeth Reilly-Hodes, Sarah J. Hodes, Drew D. Smith, husband of Jillian Smith, and Evan B. Smith; and three great grandchildren, Zachary Hodes, Katherine Hodes, and Brenna Smith.
The family is grateful for the devoted and conscientious care of the staff in the Herrnhut unit at Moravian Manor.
A memorial service will be held at Charles F. Snyder Jr. Funeral Home & Crematory, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA 17543 on Friday, April 25 at 10:00 a.m. with The Rev. Dr. Ann Osborne officiating. The family will greet guests immediately following the service. Private interment will be at the Highland Presbyterian Church Memorial Garden. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Moravian Manor, 300 W. Lemon Street, Lititz, PA 17543 or Alzheimer's Association Greater Pennsylvania, 2595 Interstate Drive, Suite 100, Harrisburg, PA 17110.
