Edward M. Winters, 57, of Lancaster, PA, passed away on Friday, March 2, 2012 at his residence, surrounded by his family. He passed away peacefully in his sleep after fighting Lou Gehrig's Disease (ALS) for the past 5 years. He fought this illness with much courage, a positive attitude, great sense of humor, and strength. He inspired many people with how he accepted this disease.
He was the husband of Glenda L. Runk Winters, with whom he celebrated 31 years of marriage this past February 14 th . Born in Providence, RI, he was the son of Edward and Norma C. Knight Winters.
Edward had worked as a truck driver for over 30 years. He had worked for John S. Ewell, Sico Gas Company, Worley & Obetz, and Lester Summers trucking company.
He was a member of the Long Memorial United Methodist Church . He was also a member of Masonic Lodge 286 of Columbia, the Lancaster Lodge of Perfection, and Harris burg Consistory.
Ed was a fan of the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots. He enjoyed traveling anywhere but especially enjoyed the New England states. He also loved to cook. He felt very blessed to have been able to be a grandfather for 2 years and loved Owen so much. A bond that will never be forgotten.
In addition to his wife and parents, Edward is survived by his son, Derek P. married to Barbara C. Winters of Denver, PA and by his grandson Owen T. Winters. He is also survived by his sister Donna married to Gilbert Book of New Providence, and by his brother David married to Charmion Winters of Florida. He was preceded in death by his son, Jared M. Winters, who passed away in 2002.
Friends will be received by Edward's family on Saturday, March 17, 2012 from 11AM to 12 Noon at the Charles F. Snyder Jr Funeral Home & Crematory, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA, with the Memorial Service to follow at 12 Noon, the Revs. Rodney Miller and Dudley Danielson officiating. Interment will be private.
