Edward F. McDonough, Sr., 85, formerly of Lancaster, PA and Pine Island, FL, died at Landis Homes, Lititz, PA, on Tuesday, February 16, 2010. He was the husband of the late Ethel G. Smith McDonough, who died in 1995.
Born and raised in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Thomas and Nellie Kelly McDonough. Edward graduated from North Catholic High School in Philadelphia. He served in the Army during WWII in Ryukyus Islands as a radar crewman with the 948 th Anti-Aircraft Artillery Automatic Weapons Gun Battalion.
Edward worked as a marketing manager for RCA for 30 years. An active volunteer for many years, he served at Hospice of Lancaster County, Lancaster General Hospital, Cape Coral Hospital in Cape Coral, FL and with F.I.S.H. He was a member of Our Lady of The Miraculous Medal Catholic Church in Pine Island, FL, where he ran the food pantry. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus in Lancaster and Pine Island.
Surviving are his children, Edward, Jr. of Boynton Beach, FL, Eileen, wife of Les Judy of Middletown, PA, Michelle, wife of John Solomon of Glenmoore, PA and Patrick, husband of Dona McDonough of Elizabethtown, PA, six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. His daughter Erin and brothers Peter and Thomas preceded Edward in death.
Friends will be received on Saturday, February 20, 2010, from 10:30-11 AM at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 501 E. Orange St., Lancaster, PA, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM with The Rev. Daniel Mitzel as Celebrant. Private Interment will take place in Pine Island Memorial Gardens, Pine Island, FL. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Edward's memory to Hospice of Lancaster County, PO Box 4125, Lancaster, PA 17604-4125. Arrangements by the Charles F.
