Edward C. Carty, 83, formerly of East Petersburg, passed away Saturday, March 31, 2018 at Luther Acres. Born in Boston, MA he was the son of the late John and Nora (Faherty) Carty. He was the loving husband of Ruth (Denton) Carty with whom he shared over 62 years of marriage. He worked at the former Continental Can Co. in various departments for many years. He also worked in HR at Conestoga Wood Specialties. Edward proudly served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He was an active member at St. John Neumann Catholic Church where he served as a Eucharistic minister, served on Parish council as a past president and was involved in various other groups. He also was a part of the St. Anne Neumann Senior group and volunteered at the Lancaster Regional Hospital. Ed was an avid golfer and longtime starter at "Evergreen Country Club," but most of all loved spending time with his family, especially traveling to the shore at Ocean City, MD. The family would like to thank the staff at Luther Acres and Masonic Village Hospice for the exceptional care that was given to Edward during his illness. In addition to his wife Ruth, he is survived by a son, Thomas Carty, husband of Debbie of Kensington, MD; three daughters, Terry Hohn, wife of Robert of Landisville, Mary Ryan, wife of Mark of Lancaster and Patricia Irwin of Brickerville. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, Jeremy Hohn, husband of Whitney, Jamie & Jonathan Hohn, Shawn Irwin, companion of Tori Shavalier, Kevin Carty, Megan & Maura Ryan; three great-grandchildren, Camden & Nolan Hohn, Nora Irwin; and a sister, Mary LeBlanc, wife of Joseph of Randolph, MA. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Jack & Donald Carty. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11AM on Saturday, April 7, 2018 at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 601 E. Delp Rd, Lancaster, PA 17601. Interment will follow in Conestoga Memorial Park, Lancaster. Family and friends will be received from 10-11AM at the church on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Ed's memory may be made to Masonic Village Hospice, 1 Masonic Dr, Elizabethtown, PA 17022, Luther Acres Caring Fund, 600 E. Main St, Lititz, PA 17543 or the St. John Neumann Building Fund at the above address.
