Obituary

The Smart Man. Edward Patrick Blazer of Lancaster/Lebanon, 85, died on Thursday March 30th, 2017. Ed, or "Pat" as he was known in his younger years and by family, was foremost, a teacher. He was the best husband, dad, teacher, and mentor ever! Ed explored the heart and soul of humanity and profoundly touched the good in people with his presence and his stories. He is our love, our father, and our hero. Ed graduated from Northeast Catholic High School in Philadelphia. After serving as a corpsman in the U.S. Navy, Ed attended Duke University where he met his wife Linda. He later earned his teaching degree at Millersville University. Having played football at Northeast Catholic and Duke, he had a great capacity for teamwork, and a love of sports. Ed's long and dedicated teaching career began at Manheim Township High School where he was a member of the social studies department. He specialized in psychology, and in fact was a member of a select team of teachers that designed the Advanced Placement (AP) psychology curriculum for the entire country. He was responsible for bringing the AP psychology course to Manheim Township. As a strong believer in the importance of community service, Ed sponsored the Key Club. He also advised the yearbook staff and served as the school's athletic trainer. He was heavily involved in The Pennsylvania State Education Association and served as the president of the Manheim Township Chapter. Following his retirement, he taught Psychology at Harrisburg Area Community College at the Lebanon Campus. As a member of the Lancaster branch of Torch Club International, Ed won the International Paxton award for his paper on genocide. Ed loved music and supported the arts. His participation in the Lebanon Senior Singers made him smile. Ed will be remembered for his generosity and his ability to meet the needs of others. Surviving Ed are his wife Linda, daughter Grace Blazer, daughter/son in-law Heather and Joe Leaman, son/daughter in-law Benjamin Blazer & Kristine Yang, and his grandson Nathan Edward Blazer. Sisters Gloria and Barbara and their families also survive him. A sister, Lily, and a brother, Norman, preceded Ed in death. At Ed's request, a memorial concert will be held on Friday, May 12, at 7:00 PM at The Friends Meeting House, 110 Tulane Terrace, Lancaster, PA. 17603. If desired, memorials can be sent to The Harmonia Music Association, 414 E. Chestnut Street, Lebanon, PA 17042, or The Lancaster Torch Club, 1308 Willow Creek Drive, Mount Joy, PA 17552.
