Edith Annemarie Ritchie, 85, of Denver, PA and formerly of Schweinfurt, Germany, passed away on November 29, 2023. Born in Schweinfurt, Germany during World War II, she was the daughter of the late Willie and Lina Schaefer. Edith met her future husband Corbett Ritchie, a Sergeant in the US Army in Germany. After getting married, Edith, Corbett, and their first-born Corbett, Jr. moved to Corbett's hometown in Hazard, Kentucky, where they went on to have 2 more children; their daughters Sharon and Tanis. After Corbett became sick, they moved back to Germany where Edith remained and had her third daughter, Loretta. Corbett eventually passed shortly after. Through the years, Edith worked many years in the AAFES Cafeteria at the US Ledward Barracks. Edith enjoyed traveling Europe, singing and dancing to German volk music, and would come to visit her daughters Sharon and Tanis and their children in the US yearly. In December 2018, Edith moved to PA to live with her daughter Tanis.
Edith is predeceased by her sister, Ingrid, her brothers Guenther, Horst, Willie, and Edgar. She is also predeceased by her son Corbett Ritchie, Jr. and daughter Loretta Schlereth. Edith leaves behind a sister, Sonja Schaefer, her 2 grandsons from her late son, her daughter Sharon Ritchie and her children, her daughter Tanis Ritchie and her children, and her son-in-law Dieter Schlereth and their children. Altogether, Edith leaves behind a sister, 2 daughters, 10 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great grandson, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Friend and family are invited to a celebration of Edith's life at 6 PM on Monday, December 11, 2023 at Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home & Crematory, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA 17543. Flowers are graciously accepted.
