IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Dwight L.
Hershberger
December 28, 2025
Dwight L. Hershberger, 85, of Lancaster, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 28, 2025 at his residence surrounded by the love of his family. He was the devoted husband of Edna E. (King) Hershberger, with whom he shared 63 years of marriage.
Born in Latour, MO, he was the son of the late Harold D. & Phebe (Zook) Hershberger.
Over the course of Dwight's adult life, he was an active member of Frazer Mennonite Church, First Deaf Mennonite Church, East Chestnut St. Mennonite Church, and Neffsville Mennonite Church. He was known as "Big D" when playing shortstop for the Frazer softball team.
Music was always an integral part of Dwight's life, singing as a member of the Frazer Quartet and later in Lancaster, being an active member of the Lancaster Red Rose Chorus and "3 Dads and a Lad" barbershop quartet. Over the years, Dwight also regularly served as song leader. Music was also always a big part of family life and that love of music has been passed down for 3 additional generations.
Dwight and Edna served as a presenting couple with Mennonite Marriage Encounter for 10 years. Dwight often flew the team to weekend retreats in other states.
Dwight was an avid sports fan and loved following the Phillies and the Eagles. He also developed a love of golf, especially later in life, and always looked forward to playing regularly with his golf buddies on Fridays.
He was employed as a computer programmer for Western Electric in Philadelphia and Philhaven Hospital in Lebanon before his retirement in 2003. He was also a private flight instructor, giving lessons at Smoketown and Lancaster airports. He served as a missionary pilot in East Africa from 1978-1981 and also used his vacation time for 6 years to volunteer as an air ambulance pilot in Ambergris Caye, Belize.
Surviving Dwight, in addition to his wife Edna, are their children Karen E. Moore (Roland), of Greer, SC; Krystal D. Johnson (Kimble), of Indianapolis, IN; Keith G. Hershberger (Sara), of Philadelphia; 7 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and his brother, Dale Hersberger (Arlene), of Richmond, VA. He was preceded in death by his sister and brother-in-law, Florence and Roy Nussbaum, his grandson, Jesse Lee, and great-grandson, Connely Moore.
Relatives and friends will be received by his family on Saturday, January 3, 2026 after 3:00 pm in the Neffsville Mennonite Church, 2371 Lititz Pike, Lancaster, PA 17601, where his funeral service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Interment will be held privately for the family.
