Obituary

Dwight Harry Brubaker peacefully breathed his last breath on earth and entered his Heavenly Home to meet his Savior, Jesus, on Wednesday, May 14, 2025. His final days began with a stroke on May 2, which ultimately inhibited his physical body from sustaining life.

Born on December 18, 1942, Dwight was the son of the late Harry Franklin and Nora (Hershey) Brubaker. He was the devoted husband of Sandra (Smith) Brubaker—his childhood crush who became his high school sweetheart and cherished wife of 63 years.

A lifelong resident of Lancaster, Dwight spent all 82 years of his life in his beloved hometown. He was the fifth generation to grow up on the family farm, where he lived for 65 years before moving from "The Old Homestead" to Mill Creek.

A proud graduate of Conestoga Valley High School's Class of 1960—the second class to graduate from the "new school"—Dwight was a loyal Buckskin. Thanks to his mother's help with farm chores, he participated in basketball and tennis, cheered on from the sidelines by Sandy. As class president, Dwight prioritized keeping his classmates connected, organizing regular reunions with Sandy's help.

His professional life began on the family farm, but when the Host Farm Resort purchased part of their land to build a golf course, Dwight became its first employee. He earned an associate's degree in Turf Grass Management from Penn State and served as superintendent of the golf course for 15 years, transforming the landscape from fields to manicured greens and beautiful flower beds. He also held board positions and served as president of the Golf Course Superintendent Association.

In 1979, Dwight transitioned into real estate, becoming a partner with Kingsway Realty. This became a sweet spot for him to sustain his satisfaction for helping people. For more than 45 years, he served generations of buyers and sellers with unwavering integrity and generosity—often placing others' needs above personal gain. Early in his career, he was recognized as Realtor of the Year. He remained active in realty organizations and served on multiple Boards of Directors.

When Dwight and Sandy traveled, they notably enjoyed music venues in Branson and Myrtle Beach. Inspired by these experiences, Dwight envisioned a similar venue in Lancaster. By 1997, with the partnership of friends, his dream became reality with the grand opening of the American Music Theater. Dwight and Sandy remained enthusiastic patrons throughout the years, especially looking forward to the theater's annual original Christmas production. Dwight cared so deeply about the message of the performances, often brought to tears when speaking about the impact they had—not only on him but also on the many others who experienced them.

Throughout his life, Dwight was committed to faith and community. As a youth, he was active in Youth for Christ, eventually serving on its Board of Directors. He also served on the board for the Big Brother Association, was honored as Big Brother of the Year, and was a member of the Corporation of Lancaster Bible College. A faithful member of Calvary Church, Dwight served as a deacon, ushered for 60 years, and played key roles on both the land search and building committees during the church's relocation.

In recent years, as Sandy's needs grew, Dwight took on many roles—chef, chauffeur, accountant, pharmacist, hairstylist, calendar keeper, and activities director. His selfless caregiving was a profound expression of loyal love, living out the vow "in sickness and in health" with quiet strength.

Dwight's smile was warm and inviting, his laughter full-bodied and contagious. He had an enduring passion for sports, both as a participant and spectator, always rooting for the underdog—unless they were up against Penn State or a Philadelphia team. He also followed politics, often tuned in to FOX News. Above all, his greatest joy was found in time spent with family, always interested and supportive of their ambitions, careers, and aspirations.

He is survived by his loving wife Sandy and their three daughters: Kim Scott (Tim) of Leola, PA; Kelly Michalski (Morris) of Xenia, OH; and Krista Keiser (Andrew) of Avon, CO. Also surviving are his sister Dolores Buckwalter (Harold) of Lititz and brother Jere Brubaker (Judy) of Lancaster, PA; 12 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sisters and their husbands, Sara Jane Lowery (Paul) and Nancy MacKilligan (Bruce), and by his stepmother, Irma S. Brubaker – whom Dwight introduced to his widowed father.

"Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His faithful servants." Psalm 116:15
