Dorothy Leaman Hess, of Mennonite Home, formerly of Creswell, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, January 16, 2024, at Mennonite Home. Born in Delta, Dorothy was the loving wife of the late Edward B. Leaman and the late Wilbur Hess.
For over 30 years, Dorothy dedicated herself to serving the community as a cafeteria worker in the Penn Manor School District. Her commitment to nurturing her family extended beyond her work life, as she was a dedicated homemaker who found joy in caring for her husband and children.
Dorothy was an active member of the Millersville Community Church, previously known as the First United Methodist Church of Millersville. She shared her passion for music by serving as a soloist and participating in the church choir, particularly enjoying the timeless hymns of the faith.
Her greatest happiness was found in the company of her beloved family. Dorothy is survived by her daughters, Linda Gettys (John "Jack") and Lori Jo Shearer (Ben); 4 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; and 4 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Edward B. Leaman; infant son, Edward Leaman, Jr.; and siblings, Donald Colvin and Jane Shertzer.
A memorial service to celebrate Dorothy's life will be held at 1:30 PM on Saturday, January 27, at Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home & Crematory, 441 N. George St., Millersville, PA 17551. Family and friends are invited to pay their respects at the funeral home from 1 PM to 1:30 PM. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests contributions in Dorothy's memory to be made to Mennonite Home Communities' Benevolent Care program or to Hospice & Community Care .
