Doris Jean Sumrall Thomas, born in March of 1934, went to be with the Lord and her family on October 9, 2014. She was a loving mother, aunt, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Born in Petal, MS, to the late Floyd and Katie (Elliot) Sumrall, she moved to Lancaster, where she grew up, and graduated from McCaskey High School. Afterward, she moved to Gulfport, MS and then to Chicago, IL, then returned to Lancaster in 1976, where she raised generations of children. Doris is survived by her son, Ralph Edward Thomas, Sr., husband of Tamika, of Lancaster; her 2 daughters, Nilsa and Erica Craig, of Lancaster; 14 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, close friends, and people who loved her. In addition to her parents, Doris was preceded in death by her sisters, Kathryn Elizabeth Sumrall Craig, Anna Rose Sumrall Stewart, her brother, Floyd Raymond Sumrall, Jr., and 3 nieces and 3 nephews. A Home Going Ceremony will be held at 11AM, Friday, October 17, 2014, at Grace Evangelical Church, 415 S. Shippen Street, Lancaster, PA 17602. Friends will be received one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Mellinger Mennonite Cemetery. A repass will follow at the church.
