Doris M. Dorwart, age 94, passed away on February 25, 2022, at Kadima Nursing Home in Lititz. Born on February 5, 1928, she was the daughter of Elsie R. and Joseph V. Weber. Doris' first husband was William C. Schaeffer. Her second husband was Marlin R. Epler. Doris was the wife of Kenneth G. Dorwart for 17 years, until his death on October 16, 2012. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Cynthia M. Moyer, and her sisters June Lackwood and Geraldine Wagner. Doris is survived by her son, Joseph M. Schaeffer, husband of JoAnne Schaeffer, step-son Donald Dorwart, husband of Theresa Dorwart, step-daughter Debra Dandridge, and 13 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

Doris earned her BS, MS, and Doctorate in Education from Temple University. Doris worked in the Governor Mifflin School District, Berks County Technical School, and the Pennsylvania Dept. of Education as the Director for the School Library Services, where she created a state-wide database. On her retirement, Doris served as director of Mansfield University's online School Library Information and Technologies program.

Doris served as an editor for some trade books, but she was an author in her own right. Doris wrote and published over 9 books in her lifetime. She lived life to the fullest. Doris loved going to the race track, playing cards, going on cruises, and attending meetings and functions with her friends from The Towne Club of Lancaster, as well as those from Longs Community. Doris would like her family and friends to think of her as sitting on a cloud, with a laptop nearby, writing her stories.

At Doris' request, there will be no viewing. A Celebration of Life ceremony will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Towne Club of Lancaster Scholarship Fund, 707 Darby Lane, Lancaster, PA 17601.
