Obituary

Donna Rose (Fierheller) Lubbs born in Winona Lake, IN on May 30, 1926, and passed away on June 26, 2017 in Lancaster, PA. She was the daughter of Dan and Irene (Van Dyke) Fierheller, and the sister of Iris Fierheller Mateika, all of whom predeceased her.

After her freshman year at Manchester College (IN), Donna was offered a position to teach fourth grade in Polo, IL. One evening, a friend asked her to accompany her and her husband and another friend to a dance so the friend could dance with Ray, a wonderful dancer, but Donna proved to be the marathon dancer; Donna and Ray were married six months later, in August 1948 and were married for 58 years. They spent most of their life in Boulder Hill, IL raising their children, engaging in their community, and serving the Church of the Brethren. She lived out her favorite Bible verse from I Thessalonians 5:18, "In everything give thanks."

Donna worked as an Avon Lady, an assistant to an allergist, and a claims recorder for MacDonald's. For years, she was class mother for a number of her kids' classes; she acted in lead roles at the Boulder Hill Playhouse; she directed a number of plays for PTA fundraisers; she taught Sunday School at the Boulder Hill Church of the Brethren, played autoharp for its children's choir, and was an active member of PEO. Her gravy, pies, and fudge were legendary, as was her talent and penchant of capturing her family, organizations, and church on photos, earning her the name "Granny Flash."

Donna was predeceased by her husband Ray in 2007. She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law Dan Lubbs and Kris Tilley-Lubbs or of Roanoke, VA and Bryant and Fran Lubbs of Malvern, PA, and her daughter and son-in-law Rayna and Charles Schneider of Frankfort, NY; her grandchildren and spouses Kirsten Lubbs and Keith Robinson, Paul and Kristie Baker, Nathan Lubbs, Eowyn and David Hernandez, Anne and Roman Roytman, and Peter Lubbs; her seven great-grandchildren; and her (almost-daughter) niece and husband Debbi and George Reed-Savory[I hope this is appropriate, but I want to mention her], as well as many other much-loved nieces and nephews.

There will be a memorial service on Saturday, July 22, 2017 at 11AM at Brethren Village Chapel, 3001 Lititz Pike, Lancaster, PA 17606. Friends will be received from 10-11AM on Saturday.
