Donald Paul Platt, 71, of Lancaster, PA, passed away on Saturday, January 10, 2015 at the Hershey Medical Center. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Ira and Esther (Striggle) Platt. Donald was the husband of Shirley A. (Hardnele) Platt. Donald was employed by Gerhart Coffee Company for over 54 years. He was a member of CYAA, Crusaders Midget Football Asso., the "original" Catholic High Carnival Committee, Loyalty Day Festival Committee, St. Joseph's Carnival Committee and the Knights of Columbus Council 6810. Both, the late Chuck Pletcher and Donald coached the St. Anne's Girls Basketball Team for 35 years. He was a longtime member of St. Anne's Catholic Church. Donald was also an avid hunter and outdoorsman. Surviving in addition to his wife, Shirley, Donald is survived by 2 daughters, Jessica Seagraves, companion of John Sears, and Stephanie Sheaffer, wife of Bart; 5 grandchildren: Carolyn, Zachary, Elissa, Nigel and Simone; 2 great-grandchildren: Elijah and Jetta; 3 sister-in-laws: Doris Platt (the late James), Glora Platt (the late Morris) and Patricia Wolf, wife of Charles (the late Raymond); and many nieces and nephews. Donald was preceded in death by 7 brothers: Benjamin, Richard, Chester, James, Edward, Raymond and Morris. A viewing will take place from 6-8 PM on Friday, January 16, 2015 at the Charles F. Snyder, Jr. Funeral Home & Crematory, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA 17543. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM on Saturday, January 17, 2015 at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 601 E. Delp Road, Lancaster, PA 17601. A viewing will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at St. Anthony Catholic Cemetery. Contributions may be made to Crusaders Youth Activities Association, St. Anne Catholic Church, c/o Patrick Henry, 108 East Liberty Street, Lancaster, PA 17602.
