Dolores (Jean) Herr Byers, 86, of Lancaster, PA, went to be with her Lord and Savior on November 24, 2023, after being under Hospice care. She will rejoice in Heaven where she will be reunited with those who proceeded her in death including her father, Luther P. Herr, her mother Alberta M. Herr, cousin, Alberta K. Bradley, son-in-law, Salvatore (Sam) Giacobbi and several beloved animals.

In addition to her husband, John M. Byers, she is survived by 3 children, Michael Byers, Connie Good wife of John Sest, and Michelle Giacobbi; A grandchild, Nicole Byers-Kauffman wife of Philip Kauffman and a great-grandchild, Michael J.E. Kauffman.

Born and raised in Lancaster, Dolores attended Grace Lutheran Church all her life where she was a member, volunteered in various roles and sang in the church choir. Her faith was the core of her daily routine that centered around her family, prayer, and nightly readings from the Bible.

Dolores most adored spending time with her family and animals. In addition to her dedicated homemaking responsibilities, she was a medical secretary for Dr. Leiphart and an office secretary for her husband's insurance business. She traveled the country favoring yearly trips to Florida. She looked forward to decorating for the holidays and hosted many family gatherings and meals in her home in which she meticulously maintained, landscaped, and upgraded. She enjoyed going out to dinner and especially liked Italian food, onion soup and ice cream. She attended many gospel concerts and as her Parkinson's progressed, she often relaxed in her chair listening to gospel music, reading, bird watching or working on her computer sending emails to family and friends. She will be remembered for her guidance and encouragement to accept faith as a way of life, love for her family and animals, contagious laugh, and singing along to music, all of which she embraced until she was called home to be with the Lord.

A funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Thursday, November 30, 2023, at Grace Lutheran Church, 517 N. Queen St, Lancaster, PA 17603, in which contributions may be made in Dolores' memory, in lieu of flowers. The family will receive guests from 10 AM until the time of service. Pastor Stephen P. Verkouw will be officiating the service.
