IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Dean G.
Miller
January 14, 2018
Dean G. Miller, 96, of Lititz, PA, passed away on January 14, 2018 at Luther Acres. Born in Altoona, PA, he was the son of the late Samuel and Sara (Smith) Miller. Dean was the loving husband of 59 years to the late Marian (Dennis) Miller. A dedicated Millersville University alumni, Dean (MSTC '42) and Marian (MSTC '41) met at Millersville and were married on Christmas Eve 1942 before Dean shipped out to the Pacific as a Lt. (J.G.) aboard USS Basilan (AG-68). Following cessation of hostilities in the Pacific, Dean resumed his career in education pursuing advanced degrees at Penn State and University of Pennsylvania, then teaching and coaching at Mount St. Joseph's' in Baltimore, Quarryville High School, Lititz and Warwick. Dean finished his career in administration at Garden Spot High School. Athletics played a major role in Deans' life beginning at Altoona High School (1939) where Dean Quarterbacked a WPIAL Championship football team. Coming to Millersville as quarterback with several of his Altoona teammates, the 1940 MSTC team was undefeated and untied, a record which stands to this day. Coaching men's' basketball at Lititz and then Warwick, Dean always regarded it a privilege to coach the 1956-57 Lancaster County Championship team. A Lititz resident since the late 1940's, meeting his players, students and co-workers later in life was always a special pleasure for him. Dean was a longtime member of St. James Catholic Church. Dean is survived by a son, David D. Miller, husband of Kay; two granddaughters, Lauren and Kathleen; and cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Jack Miller. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 AM with a viewing prior from 10-11 AM on Tuesday, January 23, 2018 at St. James Catholic Church, 505 Woodcrest Ave, Lititz, PA 17543.
