Obituary

David W. Ritchey, 74, of Lancaster, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, November 7 , 2008 surrounded by the love of his family. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Charles L. Sr. and Helen Irene ( Harsh) Ritchey.  David was the husband of Norma J. ( Leighty) Ritchey, to whom they would have celebrated 55 years of marriage on November 17th. Mr. Ritchey graduated from J.P. McCaskey High School in 1952.  He was employed by the Lancaster Newspaper Company in the Circulation Dept. for 17 years, Kirchoff  Inc in Neffsville for 17 years, finally retiring from Young s Refrigeration in June of 2007. He was a devoted father, husband, grandfather and great grandfather. All of his life David loved electronics and music. His C B handle was Super Sparkey. He served his country in the U.S. Army from 1954 until April of 1963, when he was honorably discharged, and then went in the reserves for two years. He attended St. Joseph Catholic Church. Surviving is his wife, two daughters, Bernadette, wife of Robert R. Heckard of Lebanon, Brenda L. Ritchey of Cape Cod, MA , numerous foster children, six granddaughters, eleven great grandchildren, three brothers, Charles L. Ritchey Jr. married to Ruth of Mount Joy, Kenneth E. Ritchey married to Arlene of Lancaster, and Glen Thomas Ritchey of Lancaster. David is preceded in death by a daughter, Cynthia Ann Ritchey and a brother, John W. Ritchey. There will be a viewing at the Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home Inc 414 East King Street, Lancaster, PA 17602 on Wednesday, November 12 ,2008 from 6-8PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, November 14 , 2008 at 11AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 440 St. Joseph St., Lancaster, PA with Msgr. Thomas H. Smith as Celebrant. A visitation will be from 10AM until the time of the service. Interment will be in St. Joseph New Catholic Cemetery, Bausman.
