IN LOVING MEMORY OF
David Paul
Myers
September 16, 2014
David Paul Myers, 78, of Manheim Township, Lancaster, passed away peacefully on Tuesday September 16, 2014 after a long illness.
Born in Lancaster on July 12, 1936, he was the only son of the late Paul H. Myers and Helen (Renninger) Myers. He was the loving husband of Charlotte (Shenk) Myers, his best friend. They celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary this past July 9.
In his youth, Dave achieved the Eagle Scout award and also marched in President Eisenhower's inaugural parade. He was a 1954 graduate of Manheim Township High School and later graduated from Millersville State Teachers College in 1959. He also completed graduate studies at Penn State University. A proud patriot, Dave served our country for 8 years in the US Naval Reserve. An expert grammarian, he shared his love of the English language with nearly 5,000 students over a 30-year teaching career at Wheatland Junior High. He held 2 jobs during much of his career and sold many Lancastrians their first color TV. In retirement, Dave diligently cared for his parents and also enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Dave enjoyed vacationing with his family in Stone Harbor, NJ. A noted "car guy", Dave had a lifelong love of cars and was always amazed with their technological advances. From his first car with uncertain brakes to his last car with satellite navigation, he saw it all. He also saw it all as a fan of the Philadelphia Phillies: experiencing both the "agony of defeat" in 1964 and also the "thrill of victory" in 1980 and 2008.
Along with his wife Charlotte, he is survived by sons John C. Myers of Lancaster, David T. Myers of Pennington, NJ, daughter-in-law Maureen (McCabe) Myers and grandsons David C. Myers and Austin A. Myers.
Memorial Services will be held at 2PM on Friday, October 3, 2014 at Lancaster Church of the Brethren (where Dave was a faithful member) 1601 Sunset Ave, Lancaster, PA 17601. Family and friends will be received at the church 1 hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Dave's name may be made to the Water Street Rescue Mission, 210 S Prince St, Lancaster, PA 17603.
