IN LOVING MEMORY OF
David L.
Johnston
July 13, 2012
David L. Johnston, 41, having run his race and finishing well after doctors recently discovered advanced melanoma, was called home by The Lord on Friday, July 13, 2012, at Poudre Valley Hospital in Fort Collins, CO,. A resident of Lititz, he most recently lived in Fort Collins, CO. David's favorite quote was "Don't count the days, make the days count".
David earned his B.S. in criminology from Millersville University and two M.S. degrees in the area of strength conditioning from Georgia Southern University and the University of Wisconsin. David served as a strength and conditioning coach at Stonybrook, Campbell and La Verne Universities, before joining the athletic department staff at Colorado State University last fall. He worked with the cross country, track and field and women's golf programs, and in May David joined the Ram's football staff. Possessing a high intensity for his job, David "lived" the achievements of the students and athletes. The entire football team and coaching staff visited David at his hospital bed last week to show their respect for a coach who was committed to their wellbeing.
Born in Nyack, NY, he was the son of the Rev. Dr. Roy N., Jr. and Carol L. Owens Johnston of Landisville. David's family also includes his sisters, Lorenda Richards, Lititz, and Rebecca, wife of Wilson Lopez, Landisville, and his nieces, Desiree Richards and Alivea Lopez. David spent his early years in Malaysia and Thailand with his parents who were missionaries in Asia. The family moved back to the states for his senior year so he could play football and graduate from Johnson High School in Gainesville, GA.
The Funeral will be held 1:30 PM Saturday, July21, 2012, at Lancaster Alliance Church, 210 Pitney Road, Lancaster, PA, 17601, with The Rev. Carl S. McGarvey officiating.
