IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Danny Ray
Wheatley: Retired Cpo, Usn
March 3, 2019
Danny Ray Wheatley died peacefully at home with his family by his side on March 3, 2019.
Danny was born April 30, 1940 in Vincennes, IN, to Virginia Morgan Wheatley and Aloysius Grant Wheatley. He joined the Navy in 1958. Danny was a veteran of the Vietnam War and served on the USS Hissem, USS Annapolis, USS Mt. Whitney, and the USS Harold J. Ellison. During his time at sea he earned the honor of joining the Order of the Blue Nose and the Order of the Golden Shellback.
After retiring from the Navy in 1978, Danny worked as a tech representative with Ikon Office Solutions.
Danny's 20 years of service fostered his love of water. He was happiest near an ocean, a lake, or the Wabash River. He enjoyed fishing in all forms and, after retiring from the Navy, enjoyed tying his own flies and spending his weekends on a boat.
Danny is survived by his wife of 58 years, Carol Davidson Wheatley; his daughters, Teresa Marie, married to Tim Roschel, and Robin Lynn; his sister Rebecca; his brothers Richard and Grant; his grandchildren Danielle and Dylan Griffe, and step-grandson Alexander Jones. In addition, he is survived by four beautiful great grandchildren who brought him joy. He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother Tommy, and his sister Kathy.
The family would like to express gratitude for the compassion and care provided by Dr. Hyatt P. DeGreen III (Tracy), the nurses at Lancaster Cancer Center, the infusion nurses at UPMC Lancaster Regional, and the nurses and staff of Hospice and Community Care.
Private family services will by officiated by Reverend Michelle Grube and held at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Danny's memory to Friends for the Journey: Lancaster Cancer Center at 1858 Charter Lane, Suite 202, Lancaster, Pa 17605 or to Hospice and Community Care at 685 Good Drive, Box 4125, Lancaster, PA 17604.
