D. Elaine Nies, 93, of Lancaster, passed away on Friday, March 1, 2019. She was the wife of Richard H. Nies who passed away in 1971.

Born in Columbia, she was the daughter of the late Raymond M. and Grace E. Cover. She was also the step daughter of the Elizabeth Williams Cover.

She retired in 1984 after 33 years of service from the General Cigar Company, Chester Street Branch in Lancaster where she worked as a secretary and office clerk.

Elaine enjoyed playing scrabble with her daughter, Cheryl, doing crossword puzzles, shopping and was an avid Phillies baseball fan.

Surviving in addition to her son in law, Dike S. Stoe, married to her late daughter, Cheryl L. Stoe of East Hempfield Township, is granddaughter, Kelly R. Lawrence of Mount Joy; grandson, Dike R. Stoe of Millersville; five great grandchildren, Jenna Lawrence, Ryan Lawrence, Courtney Bowers, Aleah Stoe, Morgan Stoe; great-great grandson, Isaiah Lawrence and several nieces and nephews. Also, Alverta D. Hossler, mother of Dike S. Stoe. Elaine was preceded in death by her daughter; Cheryl L. Stoe; a sister, Helen M. Albright; a brother, Raymond M. Cover, Jr. and a step sister, Harriet Helmer. Elaine was the last of her immediate family.

There will be a memorial service on Saturday, March 9 at 10 am at the Charles F. Snyder, Jr. Funeral Home & Crematory, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz PA, 17543. The family will receive guests from 9:30 until the time of service at the funeral home. Interment is private.
