Craig A. "Ho" Hohman, 57, died at his Manor Twp. home with his loving wife Sherri by his side on Monday, September 9, 2013. He was born in Lancaster to the late Joseph and Loraine Shiffler Hohman.
A graduate of Penn Manor High School, he completed the Advance Life Support Review Program and Paramedic Institute at St. Joseph Hospital and the Medicolegal Death Investigator Training Course at St. Louis University, School of Medicine. Craig devoted his life to being a first responder for over 40 years. Craig first worked for Lancaster Medical Transport, Inc. as a manager, 1978-1979. In 1979 he also worked as an EMT at Rocky Springs Amusements. All the while Craig volunteered as an EMT for the mobile intensive care unit, emergency department at St. Joseph Hospital from 1976-1981. He was then employed by St. Joseph Hospital as a mobile intensive care unit paramedic from 1981 to present. Craig served as a Lancaster County Deputy Coroner under Dr. Gary Kirchner.
Craig served as volunteer fireman for West Lancaster Fire Department and now Blue Rock Fire Rescue since 1973. His duties and positions included firefighter, Lieutenant, Captain, Assistant Chief, Vice-President, President and Chairman of the Board of Directors. From 1974 to 1988 he volunteered with West End Ambulance Association serving as Attendant, EMT, Crew Chief, Maintenance Officer, Paramedic and Duty Officer. A founding member, Craig ran the very first call with the ambulance in 1973.
His memberships include the PA Paramedic Association (founding member), Lancaster County Emergency Medical Services Council, Lancaster County Firemen's Association, Emergency Health Services Federation of South Central PA and the Lancaster County Fraternal Order of Police.
Craig earned many awards and achievements during his service to the community. They include the "5 year", "10 year" and "Life Member Award" from West End Ambulance Association, the PA Department of Health EMT-Paramedic and Paramedic II Awards, Basic and Advanced Cardiac Life Support Provider, PA State Vehicle Rescue Technician, PA Department of Health Vehicle Operations Course, PA State Heavy Rescue Certification, Emergency Vehicle Operations Course, PA State Fire Academy Heavy Rescue Certification, Basic Trauma Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Life Support, Haz-Mat Awareness and First Responder-Operations and the PA Department of Health Automatic External Defibrillator instructor.
Surviving Craig in addition to his wife of 3 years Sherri J. Foster-Hohman, are several aunts and cousins, many close friends, and father and mother-in-law William and Caroline Foster, brother-in-law Rod Foster, husband of Karen, niece Skye Foster and nephew Lake Foster, all of Michigan.
Funeral: 11 AM Friday, September 13, 2013, at the Charles F. Snyder Jr. Funeral Home & Crematory, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA 17543, with Rev. Dr. James R. Haun officiating. Viewings with Fireman Casket Guard: 3-5 PM and 6-8 PM Thursday, September 12, 2013, and 10-11AM Friday at the funeral home. Rosary Prayer Service: 7:30 PM Thursday at the funeral home. Interment with Fireman and Paramedic Honors in St. Anthony's Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to LEMSA, Attn: Ryan Greiner, 100 E.
