Cora M. Houpt, 93, died Friday, June 14, 2013, at her Lancaster home surrounded by her loving family. Born in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late Levi H. and Ruth G. Kochel Mull. Cora was married to Glenn R. Houpt for 48 years.
She was a member of the first graduating class of J. P. McCaskey High School in 1938. She worked at Armstrong, retiring in 1951, and then at Schick, retiring in 1979. As a young woman she played guitar and sang with Tumbleweed Caravan and The Lone Rangers of Lancaster. Cora was a member of Christ United Methodist Church.
A 35 year member of American Legion Post #34, Cora served as President of the Auxiliary for 2 years, was Historian and also chairwoman of Veterans Affairs and Rehabilitation and waitressed for 30 years. She cooked for and organized many activities at Coatesville VA Hospital. She enjoyed taking motorcycle trips with Glenn, touring the East Coast and as far West as Kansas. Cora also enjoyed playing Bingo.
Surviving in addition to her husband Glenn are her daughter Judy Felsinger, Virginia Beach, VA, son-in-law Kenneth Hodgen, Jr., Mountville; 3 grandchildren: Gary Groff, Tina, wife of Andrew Loose and Erin Hodgen; and 5 great-grandsons: Dakota, Dalton, Jarrod Loose, Dylan Hess and Matthew Groff. Also surviving are 2 step-daughters: Debra Kalbach, fiancée of Hans Weber, Mountville and Wendy, wife of John Graybill, Columbia; 5 step-grandchildren and her brother Walter R. Mull, husband of Jane, Lancaster, and their daughter Denise Mason of Reading. Cora was preceded in death by her daughter Darlene Hodgen in 2011.
The Funeral will be held 12 PM Tuesday, June 18, 2013, at the Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home & Crematory, 414 E. King St., Lancaster, PA, with Rev. Roseann M. Goldberg officiating. A viewing will take place 11-12 on Tuesday at the funeral home. Interment in Conestoga Memorial Park. Please omit flowers.
