Constantine "Gus" Seiss passed away on January 23, 2024 at Willow Valley. Gus will be deeply missed by family and friends. He will be remembered always for his positive approach to life and for his faith and devotion.
He was born in New York City in 1928 of immigrant parents. He moved to Philadelphia in 1938 where he graduated from West Philadelphia High School and Temple University. Gus was active in the Boy Scouts of America in Philadelphia and was an Eagle Scout.
Gus was the owner of a coffee shop in historic downtown Philadelphia for twenty years. He was proud of the quality product he served his customers. Gus met his wife, Helen Koken Seiss, on a church pilgrimage to the Holy Lands. They were married from 1995 until her passing in 2023.
Gus was preceded in death by his first wife, Chrisanthe, and his brother, George. He is survived by his daughters, Virginia Child (John) of Bryn Mawr, Elizabeth of Athens, Georgia. He is also survived by his brother Harry Seiss and sister Mary Seiss and grandson John Child.
Gus also is survived by his two step-daughters, Joy Bounds (Jim) and Diane Koken (John K. Herr) and four step -grandchildren and six step great grandchildren.
Gus moved to Lancaster in 1995 and was an active member of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church. From 2000 t0 2017 he served as President of AHEPA (American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association) a men's church fraternal association. He also was active for many years in the church food bazaar and pancake breakfast.
Gus enjoyed traveling extensively around the United States and throughout Europe and China with his wife, Helen. He was also an active volunteer at Lancaster General Hospital serving over 3000 hours and volunteered for many years at the Lancaster City Police Department.
Funeral services honoring Gus will be held on February 3, 2024 at 10:30 am at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 64 Hershey Ave., Lancaster. Burial to follow at Conestoga Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at a viewing preceding the service starting at 10:00 am.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church or to Hospice and Community Care.
