Clarence E. Herr, 73, of Conestoga, passed away at Penn State Medical Center, Lancaster on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, with his loving family by his side. Clarence and his wife Cheryl A. (Kauffman) Herr shared 53 years of marriage.
He was born in Lancaster, the son of the late Clarence and Irene (Booth) Herr.
Clarence operated Clarence's Auto Repair for 45 years, a family business started by his father and continued by his son Clarence, III. He loved to share his mechanical and autobody knowledge in the shop with his family. During the pandemic they all helped him build his 1930 Ford Model A Street Rod.
Clarence would fix anything broken before replacing it or hiring a service repairman.
Well known in the Conestoga area, Clarence was sometimes referred to as the "Mayor of Conestoga." He was a compassionate and caring man.
Clarence enjoyed saltwater fishing, hunting, and spending time at the cabin in Blossburg, Tioga County. He was a life member of Green Hill Sportsmen's Association and Pequea Boat Club.
In addition to his wife, Cheryl, Clarence's family includes their sons, Christopher L. Herr of Lancaster, and Clarence E. Herr, III, husband of Tana (Schnetzka) of Pequea, daughter Amy M. Herr of Conestoga; five grandchildren, Brandie, wife of Kyle Stoltzfus, Nicholas Kauffman, Charles Temple, IV, Katie Kauffman, and Tyrell Washington; two great-grandchildren, Brantley Stoltzfus and Cameron Carpenter; and his siblings, C. Marie, wife of Kenneth Yake, of Kissimmee, FL, and Mary L, wife of Thomas Strubel of Mohnton, and Robert J, Herr of Conestoga. In addition to his parents, Clarence was preceded in death by his brothers, Lawrence L. Herr and Jay l. Herr, and his sister Patricia Simmons.
Clarence's family will receive friends from 2 to 4pm, followed by the memorial service at 4 pm, on Friday, March 7, 2025, at Charles F. Snyder III Funeral Home & Crematory in Willow Street, located at 2421 Willow Street Pike.
