IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Chieu Thi
Nguyen
August 3, 2023
With profound sadness, we announce the passing of our beloved mother and grandmother, Chiều Thị Nguyễn on August 3, 2023, in Hershey, Pennsylvania, at the age of 82. She was surrounded by her family.
Maria Chiều Thị Nguyễn
Born on October 22, 1940, in Sơn Tây, Việt Nam, she faced great challenges with an enduring spirit. She worked hard to help care for her family at a young age, fled communism to South Viet Nam in 1954, and then again to the United States in 1975. Throughout her life, she remained steadfast in her Catholic faith and her devotion to family.
Known for her green thumb, her garden was always abundant with a variety of Vietnamese vegetables while beautiful flowerpots adorned the front of her house. No less beautiful were the orchids against every window inside. She was an exceptional cook, always creating delicious meals for family and friends.
She was a member of St. Anne and Our Lady of La Vang Church in Lancaster for 35 years, and prior, with the Vietnamese Catholic community in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. The friends she made along the way admired her and were touched by her gentle spirit.
She will be immeasurably missed by her children and their spouses–Bình (Hoài), Minh (Lisa), Tuấn (Liên), Trung (Lan), Cảnh (Nancy), Hùng (Mindy), Cường (Jacklyn), Dzũng (Debbie), Tiến, Kim-Lan (Kevin)–as well as her fifteen grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and her numerous extended family members and friends.
The family is immensely grateful to the staff at the Penn State Hershey Medical Center who compassionately cared for her and for the family until her passing.
Memorial visitation, prayers, and Mass of Christian Burial will be held on August 12 at St. Anne and Our Lady of La Vang Church in Lancaster, followed by burial at Holy Saviour Cemetery in Bethlehem.
