Charlotte Ann Chiccarine, 56, passed away peacefully on the evening of June 20 th , 2009, after living for eight years with ALS, Lou Gehrig's disease. She was home, in the presence of her family, when she went to be with our Lord.
Born at St. Joseph's Hospital in Lancaster, PA, Charlotte was the daughter of Mary Burger Crnkovich and the late Joseph Crnkovich of Sacred Heart Parish. She was a 1972 graduate of Lancaster Catholic High School. Charlotte was an active member of St. Leo the Great Parish in Lancaster. In her years with St. Leo the Great Church she served as an extraordinary minister, a prayer group coordinator and also a member of the Spiritual Life Committee for the school. Charlotte enjoyed using her creative skills on the computer to assist the school with programs for a variety of activities including, religious, sports, and theatre. Charlotte was also a faithful participant in Perpetual Adoration at St. Joseph's Church in Lancaster. Charlotte and her family shared their compassion by serving Thanksgiving meals at St. Philip's Church until she was no longer physically able. Charlotte coordinated the Children's Christmas party at the Milagro House and lent her support to the Sunnyside community whenever needed.
Among her many activities she enjoyed tennis with her husband, sports of all kinds, gardening, cross stitch, and spending time with her family. She loved being a homemaker spending many enjoyable hours in the kitchen cooking and baking for her beloved family and friends. She enjoyed traveling and her pilgrimage to Medjugorje with her father was one of her fondest inspirational memories. While her children attended Lancaster Catholic High School Charlotte spent her time helping them and the school with the LCHS Carnival, children's sports teams and band activities.
Charlotte and husband Peter L. Chiccarine celebrated their thirty-second wedding anniversary on May 21, 2009. In addition to her husband, she is survived by their four children, Mary Ann, wife of Fred Albertini of Leola, Peter, husband of Andrea of Landisville, Catherine, wife of Paul Squierdo of Manheim, and their youngest son, Joseph of Lancaster, and her two grandchildren, Frederick and Charlotte Albertini. She is also survived by sisters Barbara M., wife of Robert Aregood, of Reading, Marcia A., wife of Thomas Powl of Lancaster, brothers Stephen Crnkovich, husband of Jeannette of Brickerville, and Robert G. Crnkovich, husband of Julie, of Lancaster.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 on Thursday, June25, 2009 at St. Leo the Great Catholic Church, 2427 Marietta Ave, Lancaster, PA 17601 with the Reverend Peter Hahn as Celebrant. Family and friends will be received on Wednesday, June 24, 2009 at the Charles F. Snyder Jr. Funeral Home and Chapel Inc., 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, 17543 from 6:30 – 8:30PM, a Vigil service with recitation of the Holy Rosary beginning at 8:15 PM and again on Thursday, June 25, 2009 at the funeral home from 8:30-9:30AM. Interment will follow mass at St. Joseph New Catholic Cemetery, Bausman, PA. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the ALS Association of Philadelphia, 321 Norristown Road, Suite 260, Ambler, PA 19002.
