Charles L. Van Gorden, 85, of Lititz, formerly of Lancaster and Halstead, PA, peacefully passed away on March 9, 2016 at The Manor of Luther Acres. He was the husband of Kathleen (Schmidt) Van Gorden, with whom he had celebrated 63 years of marriage.
Charlie was born in Halstead, PA in Susquehanna County. He was the son of the late Lloyd Alfred and Ruth (Meagley) Van Gorden.
After serving four years in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War, Charlie graduated from Franklin and Marshall College with a B.S. In mathematics. He also earned a Master's in Education from the University of Pittsburgh. He was a lifelong and passionate educator. His teaching career began at the Upper Leacock High School. He was an original member of Conestoga Valley High School, and then became a Professor at Millersville University, retiring in 1995. He was an avid gardener, tennis player, and reader. He enjoyed collecting books, especially military history of the American Civil War and World War II. Dogs were truly this man's best friend.
Also surviving 2 children, Joyce Kuster, Denver, PA and Charles L. Van Gorden, Jr. of Ballwin, MO; 7 siblings; 4 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the Funeral Service to be held at the Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home, 3110 Lititz, PA on Monday, March 14, 2016 at 10:30 AM, with a receiving of friends from 10-10:30 AM. Interment will follow at Riverview Burial Park, Lancaster, PA. Kindly omit flowers. Contributions in memory of Charles L. Van Gorden can be made to the Humane League of Lancaster County, 2195 Lincoln Highway E, Lancaster, PA 17602.
