Obituary

Charles J. Smith, 94, of Lancaster, passed away on Wednesday, March 19, 2014 at Hospice and Community Care in Mount Joy.

He was the husband of Geraldine C. Young Smith, with whom he would have shared 76 years of marriage this coming March 23rd. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Victor and Anne Belle Snyder Smith.

Charles had worked at Keppel's Inc from 1938 to 1977, retiring as executive vice president. A US Navy veteran of World War II, he served from 1944 to 1946 as a radioman 3rd class in the Pacific Theater on the destroyer tender, USS Cascade.

An avid tennis player, he was a lifetime member of the Wheatland Tennis Club where he served as treasurer. He also enjoyed playing bridge and handball, and enjoyed traveling and photography. He was very active at the Lititz Rec Center.

In addition to his wife, Geraldine, he is survived by his son, Lee David married to Doris Smith of Lititz, his daughter Linda J. married to Donald Rittenhouse of Lancaster; his 7 grandchildren: James Smith, Tami Holk, SSG Jason Leisey, Angela Leisey, April Smith, Jeremy Smith and Krista Ferguson; his 13 great grandchildren and one great great grandson. He was preceded in death by his son, Thomas Jay Smith and his sister, Helen Weisbach.

Friends will be received on Friday, April 4, 2014 from 1-2PM at the Charles F. Snyder Jr. Funeral Home & Crematory, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA, with the Memorial Service to follow at 2PM. Interment in Silver Spring Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions in Charles' memory to Hospice and Community Care, 685 Good Drive, Box 4125, Lancaster, PA 17604-4125 or to the American Heart Assn., 610 Community Way, Lancaster, PA 17603.
